Utility
Regulator acts to improve NI Water’s systems of planning and control
NI Water
today offered to provide legally binding undertakings to
the Utility Regulator that it will improve its systems of
planning and control. The offer follows the publication of
a notice setting out the Regulator’s proposals to make
an enforcement order against NI Water Limited (NI Water).
The notice is being issued because the Utility Regulator is
satisfied that NI Water is in breach of Condition F 6A.1 (1)
(iii) of its Instrument of Appointment (its Regulatory Licence).
The notice
commences a 28 day consultation period with all stakeholders
and the wider public on the Utility Regulator’s
proposal to take enforcement action.
Iain Osborne, Chief Executive of the Utility Regulator said:
“Weaknesses
in systems of planning and control have been identified,
and we are pleased that NI Water has indicated
that it will act to address these deficiencies.
We look forward to the implementation of these improvements
in a way that promotes maximum confidence for consumers.
We intend
to use our legal powers to supervise closely the company’s
actions to fix these problems. Should NI Water fail to deliver
on its undertakings we remain ready to act
in the consumer interest by imposing an enforcement order.”
